Lauer Realty Group Stands in Solidarity with Black Lives Matter
At Lauer Realty Group, we stand firmly in support of the Black Lives Matter movement and the Black community. The recent murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and others at the hands of the police have highlighted the painful, systemic racism ingrained in every aspect of our society.
We must hold ourselves accountable. Say these names: Tony Robinson, Philando Castile, Trayvon Martin, Sandra Bland, Eric Garner—and the list goes on. Justice is non-negotiable, and silence is complicity. This is a call to action. We commit to educating ourselves, confronting discomfort, and working toward meaningful change.
The Role of Real Estate in Systemic Racism
The real estate industry has played a significant role in perpetuating institutionalized racism. Practices like redlining, a policy that excluded communities of color from accessing essential services and housing opportunities, have left a lasting legacy.
In Wisconsin, residential deed restrictions historically prohibited land purchases by race—a discriminatory practice whose effects still linger, even if the exclusions are no longer legal. Madison must confront its past and acknowledge its present. From modern-day redlining—like calling the police on people of color simply for existing—to inequities in school funding and real estate financing, systemic racism persists.
Examples include:
- Campaigning while Black, like Sheila Stubbs.
- Jogging while Black, like Ahmaud Arbery.
- Birdwatching while Black, like Christian Cooper.
- Simply sitting on a porch while Black.
As Realtors, we recognize our role in addressing these inequities. It’s time for reform, action, and accountability.
