Bike the Art
Saturday, 09/10/16, 4-8 p.m.
Here’s the weekend’s equation: Velocipedes + Art + Literature = Bike the Art! Brand spoking new, this unique addition to Madison’s event offerings is brought to you by The Arts + Literature Laboratory (ALL) and The Bubbler. This free “monthly curated bicycle tour” takes you inside a variety of new and established art galleries around town. The 4 hour Kick off Tour begins at the Central Library Bubbler and from there you’ll pedal your way to aesthetic experiences galore! If you can’t make it for the entire tour catch up with the group along the way. Check out Bike the Art Facebook page for times and further information.
¡Viva México! Mexican Fest 2016
Saturday, 09/10/16, 11-9:30 p.m.
Partake in the rich culture and generous spirit of our friends and neighbors this Saturday for the 12th annual Madison celebration Mexican Independence Day! Food, dance, laughter and, of course, history! Stop at the Mexican Independence History Exhibition and learn why the “Cry of Dolores” was such a pivotal step for independence. Traditional Mexican folk dance performances, more than 20 live bands, crafts, activities for kids – there will be no shortage in excitement! Fuel up on food brought to you by some of Madison’s best Mexican and Latino restaurant vendors, and then dance some more!
Proceeds of the festival go to Latino students in form of scholarships. If you’d like to support this great cause, you can make a donation directly on the Mexican Fest Facebook page.
IRONMAN
IRONKIDS: Saturday, 09/10/16, 9 a.m. (Capitol Square)
IRONMAN: Sunday, 09/11/16, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (Monona Terrace and beyond)
Steel yourselves for feats of fitness! As the official site states, “Iron Man is a test of physical toughness and mental strength. IRONMAN is about persevering, enduring and being a part of something larger than ourselves. It shows the heights that can be achieved when we push beyond our boundaries and go the distance.” On Sunday, cheer on thousands of athletes as they swim, run and bike all day, making Hermes and Neptune jealous! For the swim, your best views will be from Monona Terrace or along the bike path (right by the lake). For the bike course and run loop there will be great viewing spots all around Monona Terrace and the immediate downtown area.
Kids too can show their mettle. The annual event kicks off with Iron Kids on Saturday, a “fun run” around the capitol for kids ages 3-15. IRONKIDS receive a race bib, finisher shirt or trucker hat, medal, goodie bag with their admission, and there will be fun activities for spectators around the capitol.
