Monona Terrace–Dane Dances: Get Up, Get Down!
8/12 – 6 p.m., Monona Terrace
Friday night’s Dane Dance is bittersweet, as Madison’s own MadiSalsa plays its last gig after 24 years of making Madisonsian’s move their mambas. The evening of booty-shaking begins with Madison’s Primitive Culture from 6-7:30. They pass the maraca to MadiSalsa, who will perform 8-9:30. Get your dancing shoes on, pick up some treats and drinks, look out over Lake Monona, and when the rhythm calls—you’ll know what to do!
Africa Fest: “Building and Bridging Communities”
8/13, 10 a.m. – 10 p.m., Central Park
Africa Fest celebrates the beauty and dynamism of African culture and heritage with food, dance, crafts and storytelling. Begin the day with a 5k walk/run (starts at 10 a.m.) to help raise funds for water well initiatives in Africa, and enjoy dance performances, craft demos, stories and a variety culinary delights throughout the day. The Congolese-Cuban fusion band Ricardo Lemvo & Makina Loca is one of the highlights, along with some of Madison’s favorite local bands, including Kikeh Mato, Tani Diakite and Atimevu. Africa Fest offers a rich cultural celebration for the entire family!

What better way to hone your photographic skills than taking an Instagram photo-challenge! Participants are invited to become “IQuesters” as your embark on a social media/photography quest throughout Madison’s Madison’s Central Business Improvement District. From August 11 through August 14 competitors can win prizes! All funds raised benefit the B-Cycle Program. More info here.
