A fast and easy way to make sure you have great curb appeal this spring is to plant bulbs. Now is the time of year to plant your new bulbs for next spring and summer flowers. When planting late spring or summer bulbs just be observant how much sun the flower requires and plant them in areas that will allow enough sunlight. Spring bulbs do best when they get a lot of sun but can also go under mature trees that will not have their full canopy yet in the early spring. Just make sure not to plant them in an area that will get too saturated with water.
How will they define the space?
If planting in gardens plant the bulbs in clusters to give them more weight and lend your garden a heavy dose of color. If planting along a walkway plant the bulbs in a row to help define the space with a colorful border. Get creative! If you don’t end up liking your arrangement you can always rearrange your bulbs next fall. There are plenty of great websites that will tell you how to plant bulbs and what bulbs are right for the Madison area and Wisconsin’s climate. My current favorite website about bulbs is a nonprofit that has a ton of useful information.
