DIY Historic Research
When selling a home, we do our darndest to gather the stories and history that give each home its charm. This gives our Sellers and potential Buyers a full understanding of what makes each home so unique. Two of the resources we use include our friends at the Wisconsin Historical Society Archives and the National Register of Historic Places. However, the entire history is not always on record, so connecting with previous home owners and neighbors can be very valuable. Interested in knowing your home’s history? Check out these resources and see if your home received special recognition.
Getting to know your Neighborhood History
The City Of Madison offers great resources for neighbors to get to know the history around them. On this site the Local Historic Districts are outlined and mapped, while the National Register of Historic Districts has a slightly different list they recognize.
Neighborhoods and homes aren’t the only public places that get noticed; these local landmarks have received historical recognition as well. From Native American Mounds, to Synagogue, to Boat House and Athletic Field, there’s history all around us!
Take a walk through town on one of these Historic Walking Tours, and see Madison through the eyes of ye olde – hosted by the Madison Trust for Historic Preservation.
