There’s much ado about a lot this weekend – binge on the Fringe, witness architectural genius, and watch tree dancing with awe! If you’re going to Orton Park, make sure to say hi!
Orton Park Festival
Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 25-28, Orton Park, Schedule
We love the neighborhoods in Madison and are a very proud sponsor of many events! Yesterday kicked off Orton Park Fest 2016 – one of our favorites! As every year, this four-day festival promises a musical medley for all tastes – Celtic tunes (The Kissers), dance beats (Ggoolldd), Garage Rock (Twin Peaks) and more! Speaking of taste, the festival features craft beer and wine tents, as well as some of Madison’s favorite restaurant vendors! And of course, don’t miss the Cycropia Aerial Dance — “a troupe of dancers who swing on trapezes and ropes hung in the park’s stately oaks.”
If you have yet to pick up your free Orton Park Fest Bandana, stop by between 8-5 today at their office at 2229 Atwood Ave, or watch for Liz Lauer on Saturday – she will be attending along with the family and handing out bandanas as she does every year!
University Heights: World-Famous Architects
Saturday, August 27, 11 a.m.
If you missed out on last week’s Historic State Street tour, fret not this. This is the Wright time for another! This weekend the Madison Trust for Historic Preservation takes you on an architectural spree of magnificence through University Heights, where “homes by Frank Lloyd Wright, his mentor Louis Sullivan, local architects Claude & Starck and Alvan Small stand side-by-side.” Walk the winding streets, oooh and aah over hilltop mansions overlooking the city, and learn about world renowned architects that left their mark. The tour meets in front of Olin House, 130 N. Prospect Ave and takes about 1¼ hours.
Adults $10, students $5, free for Madison Trust members. No reservations required; purchase ticket at tour meeting place. Check out the Madison Trust for Historic Preservation site for more information.
