As you hunker in for the winter, now is a great time to tackle some of those indoor projects you put off in warmer days.
Humidifiers
If you have a whole house humidifier it might be a good idea to consult with your builder or an HVAC professional before putting it to use this winter as they have the potential to be damaging to your home if not used correctly. Individual room humidifiers can be a great alternative that can help you keep the dry air at bay.
Water Softeners
Since your skin is probably already feeling a little dry thanks to the winter air, it’s a good idea to make sure your water softener is filled with salt.
Fireplaces
Check your chimney for creosote buildup and be sure to keep your fireplace cleaned and ready for the next winter night.
Thermostat
Can you adjust your temperature down a bit? Even lowering your thermostat by just a few degrees can help with heating costs.
Carbon Monoxide Monitors and Smoke Detectors
While it’s important to keep your CO2 monitors and smoke detectors in working order at all times, it is critical in the winter months when your furnace is working overtime. Smoke detectors should be in every bedroom and on every floor. CO2 monitors should be on every floor so a problem can be detected quickly.
